Jesus Understands - Day 2

Day 2: Faith Is Allowed to Cry

Devotional

There is a quiet pressure many people feel in their faith: the idea that if you are really trusting God, you should not struggle. You should not cry. You should not feel the weight of what you are going through. But Scripture tells a different story. Hebrews 5:7 says that while Jesus was on earth, He offered prayers and pleadings with loud cries and tears. The Son of God wept while He prayed. In the Garden of Gethsemane, He asked His Father if there was another way. He reached out to His disciples because the burden was that heavy. If Jesus could cry out in the middle of His struggle, so can you. Strong faith does not mean the absence of struggle. It means that in the middle of the struggle, you keep turning toward the Father. Faith can groan. Faith can plead. Faith can be honest about how hard things are. What makes it faith is the posture at the end: "Father, I trust You." Your tears are not a sign that your faith is failing. They may be the very place where your faith is being forged. Bring your honest heart to God today. He is not surprised by it, and He is not disappointed in you.

Bible Verse
"...who, in the days of His flesh, when He had offered up prayers and supplications, with vehement cries and tears to Him who was able to save Him from death, and was heard because of His godly fear..." - Hebrews 5:7 (New King James Version (NKJV))

Reflection Question
Have you ever felt like your struggle was a sign of weak faith, and how does knowing that Jesus Himself cried out to the Father change the way you see your own honest prayers?

Quote
"Strong faith doesn't mean there's not a struggle. Faith can cry, faith can groan, faith can urgently plead. Yet in the end, faith says, Father, I trust you.”  - Pastor John Pool

Prayer
Lord, thank You that I do not have to pretend to be okay in Your presence. Teach me to bring my honest heart to You, trusting that You receive my tears and hear my prayers. Amen.
