Jesus Understands - Day 4

Day 4: Your Symptoms Are Not the Truth

Devotional

When you are in the middle of a hard season, everything around you sends a message. The diagnosis, the empty bank account, the broken relationship, the silence from someone you love. These things are real. The pain is real. The difficulty is real. But there is a difference between what is real and what is true. Your symptoms are real. But when they start telling you that God is not faithful, that He has forgotten you, that His Word does not apply to your situation, that is where the lie enters. Your circumstances are trying to redefine who God is. And that is a message you do not have to receive. Romans 12:2 calls us to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. You get to decide what you meditate on. When you chew on God's goodness, His faithfulness, and what He has already done, something shifts. Not because you are ignoring reality, but because you are choosing a higher reality. What defines you is not what you are going through. What defines you is who God is and what He has said. His Word is permanent. Your circumstances are temporary. Keep your mind anchored to what is true.

Bible Verse
"And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God." - Romans 12:2 (New King James Version (NKJV))

Reflection Question
What narrative are your current circumstances telling you about God, and how does that narrative line up with what His Word actually says about who He is?

Quote
"The symptom is real. The pain, the difficulty, the stuff you're going through, it's real. Where the lie comes in is your symptoms are trying to tell you that God is not true to His Word. It's lying. It's communicating a message about God that that is not true."- Pastor John Pool

Prayer
Lord, help me to recognize the lies that my circumstances are speaking and to replace them with the truth of Your Word. Renew my mind today so that I see my situation through Your eyes. Amen.
