Day 3: You Cannot Be Abandoned
Devotional
One of the deepest fears people carry is the fear of being left. Left by a parent, a friend, a spouse. That fear does not always stay out of our relationship with God either. Many believers quietly wonder, deep down, if God will eventually give up on them. Here is the truth that should put that fear to rest forever. God cannot leave you. Not because He is obligated to stay, but because of the union He has established with you. In order for God to leave you, He would have to abandon Himself. And that is something He simply cannot do. Hebrews 13 reminds us that He will never leave us or forsake us. But the reason goes even deeper than a promise. It goes to the very nature of your union with Christ. You are not just someone God watches over from a distance. You are joined to Him. What happens to you, happens to Him. This means you do not have to beg for His attention. You do not have to perform to keep His presence. You do not have to wonder if He heard your prayer. He is not beside you waiting to be invited in. He is already within you, and that changes everything about how you face hard days. You are not alone. You never were. And you never will be.
Bible Verse
"I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me." - Galatians 2:20 (New King James Version (NKJV))
Reflection Question
Is there an area of your life where you have been acting as though God is distant or disinterested? How does the truth of your union with Him speak to that fear?
Quote
"Do you know why he can't leave you or forsake you? He cannot abandon himself. In order for God to leave you, He has to deny Himself."Pastor John Pool
Prayer
God, thank You that You are not far from me. Help me rest in the reality that You cannot leave me, and let that truth replace every fear of abandonment I carry. Amen.
