Faith That Moves Mountain's Pt 6 - Day 5

Day 5: An Anchor in the Storm

Devotional

Pastor John told the story of a young man in Florida with a hurricane coming. Everyone told him to secure his boat, so he bought a pile of rope and tied it off to the dock, to trees, even to a car. An old sailor watched him and said, "That's not going to work... You tied it off to everything that's going to blow away. If you want to save your boat, drive your boat out into the deep and anchor."

Hebrews 6:19 calls hope an anchor of the soul, sure and steadfast, reaching all the way into the presence of God. An anchor doesn't stop the storm. It doesn't calm the wind or the waves. It keeps you steady while the storm is happening.

Hard days will come. Anyone who has lived for any length of time knows that. The people who don't just survive them, but learn and grow through them, are the ones who have anchored themselves in something the storm can't touch.

How do you do that? There is no shortcut. Get into the Word and find out who God is. You have a God who specializes in the impossible. If He has to part the water, He will. If He needs water to come out of a rock, it will. He is just looking for you to partner with Him by trusting in His nature and His character.

What have you tied your life to? Make sure it's the anchor that holds.

Bible Verse

"This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which enters the Presence behind the veil." - Hebrews 6:19 (New King James Version (NKJV))

Reflection Question

What things in your life have you been tying yourself to that a storm could blow away? What would it look like to anchor in God's character instead?

Quote

"You have a God that specializes in impossible. He'll make a way." - Pastor John Pool

Prayer

Jesus, You are my anchor. When the storms come, hold me steady. I tie my life to who You are and what You have promised, not to things that can blow away. Amen.
