Day 1: Coming Quickly
The very last words Jesus speaks in the Bible are not a command or a parable. They are a promise, and He says it three times in the final chapter of Revelation: "I am coming quickly."
When someone repeats themselves three times, they want to make sure you heard them. Jesus wants His people to expect Him. Not someday in a vague, far-off way, but at any moment.
It is fair to ask how "quickly" fits with two thousand years of waiting. God's sense of time and ours are not the same. But the time that has passed should not dull our expectation. If anything, it should sharpen it. We are two thousand years closer to His return than the people who first heard those words.
Believers hold different views about the details of the end times, and sincere Christians land in different places. But every one of us can agree on this: Jesus could come at any time. That is what is meant by His imminent return.
So let the promise land on you today. Jesus is coming. He said so, and He cannot lie. Live this day like He meant it.
Bible Verse
"He who testifies to these things says, 'Surely I am coming quickly.' Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus!" - Revelation 22:20 (New King James Version (NKJV))
Reflection Question
If you truly expected Jesus to return today, what would you think about differently this morning?
Quote
"Even though so much time has passed, it should not lessen our anticipation of His return. If anything, it should heighten it."
Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank You for Your promise to come again. Keep my heart expectant and my eyes on You today. Even so, come, Lord Jesus. Amen.
