Day 2: He Walks With You Anyway

One of the most tender details in the Emmaus story is this: Jesus walked with two discouraged disciples before they even knew it was Him. He did not wait for them to get their faith together. He did not require them to turn around first. He simply came alongside them in the middle of their grief. That is who Jesus is. He meets you where you are, not where you think you should be. Notice what He did first. He asked questions. He listened. He let them pour out their sadness before He ever said a word of correction. He was not in a hurry to fix them. He was present with them. That kind of grace is worth sitting with for a moment. You may be on a road right now that feels exhausting and discouraging. Maybe you have been rehearsing your disappointment over and over, trying to make sense of it. Jesus is not standing at a distance, arms crossed, waiting for you to figure it out. He has already stepped onto your road. He is already walking with you. God, so it seems, often inserts Himself into our tiresome, exhausting journey and becomes a fellow traveler. That is not a small thing. That is the heart of a Savior who refuses to let you walk alone.
