Day 1: When Hope Falls Apart

We have all been there. You believed God was going to come through in a specific way, and He didn't. At least, not the way you expected. The two disciples walking to Emmaus knew this feeling deeply. They had placed their hope in Jesus to restore Israel, to overthrow Rome, to make everything right. When He died, their world collapsed. So they walked away. Disappointment is powerful. It doesn't just hurt your feelings; it moves your feet. It creates distance between you and God, between you and community, between you and the future you once believed in. Proverbs 13:12 says it plainly: hope deferred makes the heart sick. That is not weakness. That is being human. But here is what is so encouraging about this story. Jesus did not let them walk alone. On the very day of His resurrection, He chose to pursue two people who were giving up. Not the bold ones still in Jerusalem. The ones walking away. If you are in a season where your hope has taken a hit, you are not disqualified from God's presence. You are not too far gone. He sees exactly where you are, and He is already moving toward you. Your disappointment does not push Jesus away. It draws Him near.
