The Hidden Power Of Unbelief - Day 3

Day 3: It Started With a Question

Devotional
Adam and Eve lived in a perfect place, in perfect fellowship with God, with no reason at all to question His goodness. Yet something happened that changed everything.

The devil didn't show up as a monster, and he didn't tell Eve to rebel against God. He started by questioning what God had said. God's command was clear, and His warning was clear. But now there was a competing voice, and Eve had to decide whose word she would believe.

Then the serpent went one step further. He suggested God was holding something good back from her. Eve had been made in the image of God, yet the enemy planted a sense of lack, as if she wasn't enough and there should be more. Before she ever reached for the fruit, she had already decided to trust the devil's word over God's.

That is the essence of unbelief: choosing to believe something other than God and His Word. Jesus said the Holy Spirit would convict the world of sin "because they do not believe in Me." Trace almost any sin back far enough, and you will find unbelief at the root.

The enemy still works the same way, with a whisper that sounds reasonable. Today, when a thought questions what God has said or whether He is good, recognize where it comes from, and choose His Word.

Bible Verse
"And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: of sin, because they do not believe in Me." - John 16:8-9 (New King James Version (NKJV))

Reflection Question
What "competing voice" has been questioning God's Word or His goodness in your life lately?

Quote
"Satan attacked God's truthfulness. He attacked God's goodness before he ever tempted Eve to disobey."

Prayer
Lord, I choose Your Word over every competing voice. When doubts about Your goodness come, help me recognize them and stand on what You have said. Amen.
