The Hidden Power Of Unbelief - Day 2

Day 2: When Uncertainty Creeps In

Devotional
When we hear the word unbelief, most of us picture someone who flatly rejects God. But the unbelief that hurts most believers is quieter than that. It is uncertainty.

It sounds like this: Is God really going to keep His promise? I know He heals people, but will He heal me? I know His Word is true, but will it work for me? It isn't arrogance that says I won't believe. It is an unsettled place of not knowing.

The problem is that uncertainty doesn't stay put. Left alone, it grows into unbelief, and unbelief makes us double-minded. The Bible warns that a double-minded man is unstable in all his ways and should not expect to receive anything from the Lord.

That isn't God being angry with us. He isn't mad. He is brokenhearted, because His children are living far beneath what He has provided for them.

Hebrews 3:12 tells us to watch our hearts, so that unbelief doesn't turn us away from the living God. Take an honest look today. Where has a quiet "I'm just not sure" settled in? Name it, and bring it to the God who keeps His word.

Bible Verse
"Be careful then, dear brothers and sisters. Make sure that your own hearts are not evil and unbelieving, turning you away from the living God." - Hebrews 3:12 (New Living Translation (NLT))

Reflection Question
What promise of God do you find yourself quietly unsure about when it comes to your own life?

Quote
"It's not this arrogance that says I won't believe, it's this unsettledness of not knowing."

Prayer
Father, I bring You the places where I am unsure. I don't want to live beneath what You have provided. Settle my heart in Your Word. Amen.
