Day 4: Stay, Lord
Devotional
As Jesus and the two disciples approached Emmaus, He acted as though He would continue on. And in that moment, they made a choice that changed everything. They urged Him to stay. They pressed in. They said, in effect, "We need You. Don't go." And He accepted their invitation. At dinner, He broke bread. And in that simple, familiar moment, their eyes were opened. They recognized Him. Everything that had felt confusing and broken suddenly made sense. Restored hope produced immediate movement. They got up and went straight back to Jerusalem. There is something deeply personal in this moment. Jesus was not going to force Himself on them. He waited to be wanted. And when they reached out, He responded. That same dynamic is alive today. He is already walking with you, but He is also waiting for you to invite Him deeper into your situation. If you have been keeping God at arm's length because of disappointment, today is an invitation to press in. Ask Him to stay. Open your hands. Come to Him with an open heart, and trust that He will meet you there. He makes Himself known in the breaking of the bread, in the ordinary moments of a surrendered life.
Bible Verse
"Now it came to pass, as He sat at the table with them, that He took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to them. Then their eyes were opened and they knew Him; and He vanished from their sight." - Luke 24:30-31 (New King James Version (NKJV))
Reflection Question
What would it look like for you to actively invite Jesus into the specific area of your life where you have felt the most disappointed?
Quote
"A lot of times when you'll find you'll just come to a church service like any other church service. But if you come with a right heart, you come with an open heart. I'm guaranteeing you God will meet you."
Prayer
Jesus, I am asking You to stay. Come into the places I have kept closed off, and open my eyes to see You clearly again.
