Faith That Moves Mountain's Pt 6 - Day 1

Day 1: Have You Stopped Expecting?

Devotional

There are a lot of Christians who genuinely believe in God. They love Jesus and they know the Word. But somewhere along the way, they quietly stopped expecting anything good to happen.

It rarely happens all at once. A prayer seems to go unanswered. A problem drags on longer than we thought it would. We get disappointed. And without even realizing it, we stop expecting. That lack of expectation is still an expectation, and it begins to reshape our lives. Before long, our circumstances are defining what we think God will do instead of His promises.

Hebrews 11:1 says faith is the substance of things hoped for. Faith is the foundation, the underlying reality, of what we hope for. But if we have stopped hoping, our faith has nothing to give substance to.

You can believe God is able to do something and still struggle to believe He will do it for you. That is exactly where biblical hope becomes so important. Hope has everything to do with what we are expecting from God.

So be honest today. Where have your expectations been shaped more by your circumstances than by what God has said?

Bible Verse

"Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." - Hebrews 11:1 (New King James Version (NKJV))

Reflection Question

Is there an area of your life where you still believe in God but have stopped expecting Him to do anything?

Quote

"Somewhere along the way, we've just stopped expecting anything good to happen." - Pastor John Pool

Prayer

Lord, I don't want my circumstances to decide what I expect from You. Show me where I have stopped hoping, and let Your promises shape my expectations again. Amen.
